Siete Canciones Populares Españolas by Manuel de Falla, composed in 1914 and dedicated to Madame Ida Godebska, is a collection of traditional songs adapted for voice and piano. This set, which has become de Falla's most orchestrated and frequently performed composition, features songs from various regions of Spain. These include an Asturian from the north, a seguidilla from Murcia, a jota from Aragón, as well as a lullaby (Nana) and a passionate song of revenge (Polo). The texts, revolving around themes of love and courtship, capture the playful, serious, and sometimes tragic aspects of these experiences.
