David Krauss

David Krauss has been principal trumpet of the The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in New York since 2001, and is a double graduate of the Juilliard School.

David Krauss

David Krauss joined The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra as Principal Trumpet in 2001 and holds the Beth W. and Gary A. Glynn endowed chair. As a soloist, he performed with the All-Star Orchestra on their Emmy Award-winning PBS broadcast, and is praised on the American Record Guide for his “singing tone, which is luxurious and inviting.” He has served as a guest Principal Trumpet with esteemed ensembles including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, and New York Philharmonic. Additionally, David has recorded for film and television and with several Broadway shows.

Currently, David is an adjunct faculty member at the Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, Mannes, and Columbia University. During the summer, he teaches and performs at the Aspen Music Festival and School and Berkshire Summer Music, a program he Co-Founded with his wife, Kristen. Alongside performing and teaching,  David is the prodigious host of Speaking Soundly, a podcast featuring insightful conversations with today’s top performing artists.
